DAV Charitable Service Trust awards a $30,000 grant to Senior Resources to help provide meals to homebound veterans

July 23, 2024

Senior Resources is proud to announce it has received a generous grant of $30,000 from DAV Charitable Service Trust, an increase from last year’s $25,400, to provide vital nutritional support through Meals on Wheels to veterans in Richland County. This funding will ensure the daily delivery of a hot meal to 12 homebound veterans for an entire year.

“We are deeply grateful to DAV Charitable Service Trust for continuing to support Meals on Wheels clients who have served our country.” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources, Inc. “Their generous grant ensures that our retired and disabled veterans receive the nutritious meals they deserve, delivered with a warm smile by our dedicated volunteers.”

Senior Resources delivered hot and frozen meals to over 1000 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County last fiscal year, including 187 veterans. Mr. J, a Meals on Wheels client since 2021, served our country for 20 years and fought in the Vietnam War. Thanks to Meals on Wheels and support from organizations like DAV Charitable Service Trust, Mr. J knows he will receive a daily hot meal and a friendly face.

As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, we are committed to ensuring our elderly neighbors and veterans receive the services they need to remain independent and healthy. The generous grant from DAV Charitable Service Trust enables us to continue improving the lives of the men and women who served our country.

About Senior Resources

Senior Resources is a non-profit organization that coordinates services, provides resources and encourages the personal choices that allow Columbia’s senior citizens to remain independent. All activities, services and programs of the agency are geared toward promoting independent living, with the goal of helping seniors remain in their homes as long as possible through the support of staff and volunteers, and delaying or preventing institutionalization.

Since 1967, Senior Resources has served Columbia’s frail and elderly residents in three areas:

  1. In-home services, including Meals on Wheels, home care, respite care, senior companion services, and case management;
  2. Community-based services, including congregate meals, wellness centers, transportation, and physical fitness;
  3. Volunteer services, including the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs.

With local, state and federal government funding, as well as contributions from United Way, personal donations and fundraising activities, Senior Resources offers a variety of programs so that our clients can select the assistance they need to maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle. With the support of our staff and volunteers, our services touch the lives of more than 4,000 Midlands residents.
