Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans and stroke is the 4th leading cause of death in South Carolina. Each day nearly 2,200 Americans die from cardiovascular disease, an average of one death every 39 seconds.  The Midlands Heart Ball’s mission is to not only raise critical funds to combat cardiovascular disease, but also to increase prevention, awareness and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Vismara, Medical Director of the Catheterization Lab at Palmetto Heart, and his wife, Dr. Andrea Pezzella, Founder and Director of Southern Urogynecology, and the only female Urogynecologist in the Midlands, are both longtime supporters of the American Heart Association and its mission.

“Andrea and I are honored to serve as Co-Chairs for the 25th Anniversary Heart Ball campaign,” said Dr. Vismara.  “As physicians, it is easy to become passionate about an organization that supports the education and awareness of cardiovascular disease and stroke in the Midlands. We look forward to leading the charge to raise critical funds which will make an extraordinary impact in the health of the Midlands community”.

The Midlands Heart Ball, the AHA’s most prestigious fundraising event, will bring together over 350 influential leaders from the corporate, philanthropic and medical communities to celebrate the accomplishments made throughout the year and plans to raise over $150,000 to help further the American Heart Association’s mission. Proceeds from the Heart Ball are used to support cardiovascular research, professional and public education, school site programs, and advocacy efforts throughout the year.
