Drug Take Back Day is Saturday April 24th

April 21, 2021

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) holds Take Back Days twice a year, in April and October, at locations across the country. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 24th and is the 20th drug take back day since the program started. This public service addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

For many years, the Laurens County Prevention Coalition (LCPC) and its many community partners/stakeholders have worked diligently to address the variety of drug problems in Laurens County.

“LCPC proudly partners with the Laurens Police Department, Clinton Police Department, Laurens County Sheriff Department, Prisma Healthcare and other community partners to make drop boxes available to the community, “said Brian King Chair of the Laurens County Prevention Coalition. “I cannot say enough wonderful things about the work the LCPC partners have done and continue to do each day to make Laurens County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
