Earth Day – Keeping Laurens County Beautiful
April 24, 2022Earth Day was a perfect day to continue the emphasis on keeping Laurens County Beautiful.
Last month, Laurens County was selected as the kick-off location for the fourth annual litter pickup campaign championed by Lt. Governor Evette and coordinated in part with SC Department of Transportation and Palmetto Pride. The turnout on a cold and damp day was high demonstrating strong support from community
members to roll up their sleeves and take the beautification of our county seriouslv.
Earth Day (Friday, April 22) was a perfect opportunity to continue to the effort.
A countywide clean-up was coordinated by Courtney Stonell, Keep Laurens County Beautiful Affiliate Coordinator, and the turnout was tremendous. Areas all over the county received a clean-up and some special attention on Earth Day. Some
efforts included:
- Sanders Middle School – Montessori students celebrated Earth Day with research projects and a scavenger hunt
- Lauren CPW employees participated in the countywide clean-up
Clinton High School Beta Club students rolled up their sleeves to clean up areas - Laurens High School Chick-fil-A Academic leaders used Earth Day as a special project to end their leadership program
- Berkshire Hathaway in Clinton served as command central for a large group of volunteers in Clinton
- Fountain Inn volunteers worked all week to collect over 700 pounds of litter
- Waterloo and Greenpond volunteers cleaned up their areas
- Laurens County employees teamed up outside to clean up areas of the community
- The city of Laurens hosted a citywide clean up
- City of Clinton dispersed in various locations
- Clinton Rotary, Cross Hill, and Gray Court participated in a clean up on Saturday
“I was excited to see all of the community members come together to help beautify Laurens County. It takes all of us doing a small part to improve the outcome of the whole,” said County Council Chairman Brown Patterson. “The Citizens of the county stepped up to the plate and I hope that we will all continue to do what we can to keep Laurens County beautiful.”
This is just a small example of the efforts being made to keep Laurens County beautiful. Everyone can do their part every day. And we have Courtney Stonell leading the effort.
Thank you, Courtney for shining the light on the need to “take care of and clean up our community.”
