Elf Scavenger Hunt launches in the Main Street District

Things are getting spirited and sneaky in the Main Street District this holiday season as 20+ elves are being hidden in various businesses within the district. Residents, office workers and visitors of the district are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt to find the elves and enter a giveaway via Instagram stories.
Patrons of the Main Street District are encouraged to find as many elves as possible throughout the month of December and tag the @MainStColaSC Instagram account, plus the Instagram account for the business where they find an elf. Anyone who posts on their Instagram story will be entered for a chance to win gift cards to participating businesses, and individuals can enter the giveaway as many times as the number of elves they find. The Main Street District team will keep track of who enters the contest each day and five winners will be randomly selected at the end of the month.
“We’re thrilled to have such a good mix of businesses participating in this inaugural elf scavenger hunt,” says Kelsey Bickley, Director of Marketing for the Main Street District. “Our goal is to generate some buzz on social media, promote the district as a holiday destination, and to just have some fun with our merchants and the general public this holiday season.”
How it Works
- Find an elf in one of the participating businesses below.
- Post a photo of the elf to your Instagram story.
- Tag @MainStColaSC + the business where you found the elf.
- Make sure you’re following @MainStColaSC + the account of the business where you found the elf.
- Enter as many times as the number of elves you can find.
- Winners announced on New Year’s Eve!

About the Main Street District
The Main Street District encompasses the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly, and Marion Streets in Columbia, SC. The organization provides public space management, economic development, marketing services, and public advocacy for the district. The non-profit seeks opportunities to fill vacancies in commercial properties by retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean, and friendly downtown environment.
