.
All of us need mentors and advisers to succeed.
One of the best I know is Ruth King.
Ruth invited me to do weekly TV business tips.
It was a great experience helping entrepreneurs.
Now we stay in touch by email and phone.
Ruth recently sent me some ad tips to share with you.
These are based on her experiences and mine.
These three will help you start your engines in 2017.
.
• Decide what you can invest in marketing.
Think 3% to 6% of goods and service revenues.
You can base this on 2016’s monthly revenues.
Use as much manufacturer co-op as possible.
This will reduce your own dollar investment.
It gives you more advertising with less of your dollars.
Do you aim to increase your customer base.
If so, invest 6% to 10% targeted to your ideal prospects.
.
• Review your 2016 advertising results.
What sold to which customers at what profit margins?
Did you and your people diligently track results?
Did you ask prospects, “How did you hear about us?” Did you faithfully record what they told you?
This is the only way to know what worked.
Repeat the advertising that worked in 2017.
Test other media with new products and track sales.
.
• Test two ad media and stick with the one that works.
Be consistent with your message and offers.
Your ideal prospects will being to recognize your ads.
This may be your design, colors and themes.
Make your offers irresistible with deadlines to respond.
.
A few words of caution and common sense.
Once you decide on the media, stick with it.
Lots of advertising ideas will come your way.
Don’t be tempted by “the latest and hottest” ideas.
If it sounds promising, put it on your 2018 list.
