Do you send Valentine’s Day cards to your clients?
If not, why not? We do it – with a gift.
It is usually something of value that costs us little.
This year we offered 13 weeks of digital advertising.
Their ads with links to their sites will appear:
- Prominently on our LexingtonChronicle.com site.
- In our “Coming in the Chronicle” broadcast.
- In our Success Strategies digital newsletter.

Their mother is our associate publisher.
We do this to thank our clients for their business.
We also measure how many hits the links produce.
This strengthens are relationship with our clients.
Business woman Joyce Hall knew cards had power.
She founded Hallmark Cards in 1910.
It’s now the largest U.S. greeting card maker.
She first offered Valentine’s Day cards in 1913.
Hallmark now offers 1,600 Valentine’s card designs.
The industry sells 141 million such cards a year.
That doesn’t include kids’ Valentines for friends.
Today is the second-largest holiday for giving cards.
About 55% of us celebrate Valentine’s Day.
And we shell out about $146.84 on average.
That’s up a few bucks from last year’s $142.31.
We do it on flowers, dinner, jewelry, a show, etc.
The day’s spending will hit $19.7 billion. Wow!
- You don’t sell cards or run a restaurant.
You don’t sell jewelry, flowers, candy or show tickets.
How can you take advantage of this day?
Think about it. We publish books and newspapers.
Big deal. But we send cards to clients with a gift.
We also publish love stories from our readers.
What could you do next year for your clients?
Challenge your staff to come up with ideas.
Ask your clients for their own ideas.
