Entrepreneurial Secrets: The Good Samaritan Strategy
July 25, 2017By Jerry Bellune
A friend of ours has an unusual business strategy.
He fixes flats free. That’s right, No charge.
He even came to our office to fix one of mine.
I consider him a Biblical Good Samaritan
All he said was, “Remember me when you buy tires,”
He’s had all of our business ever since.
We took our car to him with a slow leak last week.
The waiting area was filled with customers.
His employee Lisa estimated the wait at four hours.
She put my name on the waiting list and I left.
Two hours later, she called to alert me:
“If you can get here quick, I can squeeze you in.”
I spent 90 minutes in the waiting room.
I read a complete issue of Readers Digest.
But Lisa got it fixed and would not charge me a dime.
How could you use such a strategy in your business?
Now here’s a sad customer story from a friend.
He is a personal friend of a local business owner.
He has bought from his friend for 30 years.
He’s the kind of customer all of us want.
He’s the kind of customer none of us want to lose.
Price is not his concern. Quality and care are.
Business for them is a bond of trust. Don’t break it.
Two months ago he placed an order.
Nothing happened despite six calls and emails.
His friend won’t even take time to return his calls.
He feels disrespected and unappreciated.
This is painful because his friend has let him down.
Now he will have to find another reliable supplier.
How do you build bonds of trust with customers?
How do you attract ‘em and keep ‘em for life?
Loyal clients don’t need discounts and BOGOs.
They want to feel appreciated and respected.
How do you develop true loyalty to you?
