EQUUS Film Festival returns to Camden Feb. 17-18
January 23, 2017The City of Camden and The Marley Project, Inc. announce that, for the second time, the internationally acclaimed EQUUS Film Festival has chosen Camden as its first tour stop featuring the festival’s top, award-winning films. The EQUUS Film Festival Winner’s Tour and founder Lisa Dierson will feature domestic and international feature, short and documentary films at Camden’s Little Theatre Feb. 17-18, 2017 as part of EQUUS Film Festival Camden Tour Stop.
In addition to film screenings and audience talkbacks with filmmakers, Camden festival organizer Julianne Neal has arranged other events surrounding the festival designed to appeal to families, film fans and horse lovers including a pop-up Filmmaker Salon and Artist’s Gallery Gallop. The festival will also feature The Marley Project Literary Round Up on Saturday, Feb. 18, which offers free films celebrity readings for families. The festival has also partnered with Kershaw County and Fairfield County School Districts, both Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Project sites, to provide educational programming.
The City of Camden is pleased to showcase its equestrian heritage and its place in the equine film industry. With 45 equine-related films grouped in film blocks about subjects such as thoroughbred racing and the American West, three Camden-related films will also screen on Friday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in a “Best of Camden” film block, including:
- The True Story of Sunshine Numbers: A short film recounting trainer Arch Kingsley Jr.’s training of Sunshine Numbers, a racehorse with an extraordinary winning record owned by Sue and George Sensor, for the 79th annual Carolina Cup.
- Minimambo: The Minimovie: A short film exploring the world of thoroughbred racing and a female-only syndicate of competitive women from Camden racing their first filly, Minimambo.
- The EDGE: Bruce Anderson–Natural Humanship: A film detailing Camden equine consultant/Trinidad native Bruce Anderson’s work with horses and people to change mindsets and build a foundation of mental tools.
