County Comprehensive Planning Meetings Scheduled

February 13, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Laurens County Comprehensive Plan is a 10-year visioning plan for the future of our County. It’s a blueprint for how the County will manage the expected growth over the next decade. This plan will provide a framework for how Laurens County will make informed decisions about priority investment areas, the protection and preservation of natural resources, and future land use changes.

The process for completing the comprehensive plan involves a four-phase processes to provide continual opportunities for feedback and refinement of the plan: Phase One – Project Initiation and Management, Phase Two – Existing Conditions Analysis, Phase Three – Plan Recommendations, Phase Four – Plan Synthesis. Studio Main, and its project partners, is currently working in Phase Two where we have collected initial existing conditions analysis related to the required chapters of the Comprehensive Plan (Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, Land Use, Population, Housing, etc.) and are prepared to engage the public to gather big ideas about the future of Laurens County.

“This is an opportunity that comes once a decade. Our county is at a vital point in its history. It is important for us to get input from every community across the county. I strongly encourage everyone to participate, whether that be in person, or through the online survey link,” said County Council Chairman Brown Patterson. “I am excited to see the recommendations from all communities formulated into a grand comprehensive plan that will be the road map for how the county navigates the next decade. Having this study completed by a 3rd party will assure that we receive a complete unbiased report of the desire of our citizens. I have full faith that Studio Main will not disappoint. Input from the community on this endeavor is as important as voting. So please participate and provide feedback to help shape the future of Laurens County!”

The public engagement will be formatted as a drop-in, meaning attendees can come anytime between 5pm and 6pm to give feedback. During each session, attendees will have multiple stations to provide public input on growth, preservation, transportation, and visioning. In addition, there is an online survey where attendees can provide input if they are not able to attend the in-person sessions. This survey can be found here (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/laurenscounty2033).
