Free Statewide Virtual Career Development Workshop – June 14-15

June 3, 2021

The South Carolina IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (SC INBRE) is currently opening registration for its annual Academic Leadership and Career Development Workshop (ALCDW) to the general public. Content is appropriate for high school students through seasoned researchers. This year, the annual Workshop will be presented in an all-virtual format on Monday and Tuesday, June 14 and 15. Students will meet in the mornings on both days. Faculty, researchers, and interested individuals will meet in the afternoons. As always, the Workshop is free of charge. Registration, which closes on Wednesday, June 9, is mandatory; registrants will be emailed the participation link(s).

Although SC INBRE is funded by the National Institutes of Health and focuses on biomedical research at eighteen institutions throughout the state, the South Carolina Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (SC EPSCoR) will once again be a Workshop partner allowing the Workshop to add in National Science Foundation components including two concurrent grant proposal writing sessions focused on the differing application processes. Individuals need not be a member of either of these programs to register.

Also presented during that same week on Thursday evening, June 17, there will be a very special guided panel discussion of the landmark film, Picture a Scientist, led by three SC INBRE-affiliated female researchers: Drs. Martine LaBerge, Chair, Clemson University Bioengineering; Lucia Pirisi-Creek, professor emeritus, UofSC School of Medicine and former SC INBRE Program Director; and Takita Felder Sumter, Dean, Winthrop University College of Arts & Sciences. This event is also free and open to the public.

Agenda, film discussion information with link to a free viewing of the film and registration form for Workshop and guided discussion are available on SC INBRE’s website – http://scinbre.org.
