Graham Announces Over $470,000 for South Carolina Rural Development Job Creation Efforts

GREENVILLE, SC – September, 26, 2010 – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today announced that South Carolina will receive over $470,000 in Rural Development Grants effecting Chester , Chesterfield , Pickens, Richland , Saluda and Union counties.  The funds will help create jobs in the local communities.

All grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Chester
The City of Chester will receive a $125,000 grant for rehabbing and repairing an existing historical building for use as an Agriculture Development Center .  The project is expected to create an estimated 20 new jobs.

Chesterfield
Chesterfield County will receive a $99,500 grant to complete the planning, infrastructure design, and environmental review of an industrial site in Pageland.  The project is expected to create an estimated 50 new jobs.

Pickens
Clemson University will receive a $50,000 grant to expand the Clemson Innovation Center .  The project is expected to create an estimated 140 jobs and preserve an estimated 50 jobs.

Richland
The South Carolina Forestry Commission will receive a $30,684 grant to increase the economic impact of the forestry sector by developing new markets.  The project is expected to preserve an estimated 20 jobs.

Saluda
Saluda County will receive a $74,000 grant to develop a Saluda County Economic Development Strategic Plan, Target Industry Study, and Farmers Market Planning.

Union
Union County will receive a $99,800 grant to renovate a building for use as a business incubator.  This project is expected to create an estimated 4 jobs.
