Greenville’s Poinsett Club named “Platinum Club of America”

October 21, 2020

Club Leaders Forum — the premier consulting source of the private club industry — recently announced that The Poinsett Club, one of the Greenville area’s oldest and most recognizable clubs, has again been named a “Platinum Club of America.”

Recognizing the top 5% of clubs in each category (Country Clubs, Golf Clubs, City Clubs, Athletic Clubs, and Yacht Clubs) in the private club industry, this award is the equivalent of the “Mobil Five-Star” designation for hotels and resorts.

Of the 1000 City Clubs in the United States, only 50 are selected for the “Platinum Club of America” designation.

Rankings are awarded every two years, and this marks the eighth consecutive period that the Poinsett Club earned this designation and the first since being recognized on the list of “Platinum Clubs of the World” earlier this year.

According to Brent Reeder, the Poinsett Club’s general manager, “COVID-19 presented a unique set of challenges for the club industry this year, but it has been important to our staff that our service offerings retained our high standards. The Poinsett Club’s staff and members are a family, and like families do, we supported each other during this time. We continue to shine, and that has not gone unnoticed by our peers across the country.”

Reeder noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the club remained fully-staffed with no furloughs or salary reductions and credited that as a testament to the Board’s conservative fiscal planning and the long-time family relationships between staff and members he cited earlier.

“In spite of the ever-changing environment that 2020 continues to bring, The Poinsett Club has not faltered. It is because of the dedication and care from our staff that the club’s position on the list keeps improving – moving from number 33 in the country to number 31. Those advancements don’t happen by accident, and we are excited that the traditions we highlight here are recognized on the national stage,” added 2020 Poinsett Club Board of Governors president Dr. Andrew McDonald.
