Greenwood Genetic Center Physician Recognized For Service and Dedication to AAP

GREENWOOD, SC – September 24, 2012 – The South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) honored Dr. Robert Saul of the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) with the Special Achievement Award at their annual meeting this summer. The award recognizes Saul for distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the Academy, as well as for his many contributions to the chapter and to the AAP Committee on Genetics. Saul was selected for the award by past SC Chapter President, Dr. Greta Harper, a pediatric intensivist in Columbia.
“Dr. Saul is dedicated to not only providing the highest quality of care for his patients here at GGC, but in advancing the field of genetics nationwide,” said Dr. Steve Skinner, GGC Director. “His active involvement in AAP activities has helped to bring issues of genetics and genomics to the forefront of pediatric medicine.”
Saul has been actively involved in the AAP in many leadership roles including work with the Academy’s Section on Birth Defects and Genetics, Committee on Genetics (of which he is currently chair), Quality Improvement Innovation Network for Newborn Screening, Strategic Planning Group on Epigenetics, editing the Academy’s Genetics Handbook, and his role as AAP liaison to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Committee on Genetics. Last year Saul was named as co-director of an AAP grant to enhance the delivery of genetic-based services in the primary care setting.
