GVL2040 July 2019 update

First Public Survey Completed

A total of 3,100 people participated in GVL2040’s first online public survey in July, identifying issues that they see as Greenville’s biggest priorities. The results of the survey will assist the consultant team and steering committee in forming a draft set of community values as well as a list of the “big things” that the comprehensive planning process needs to get right. The next online public survey is scheduled to take place in September/October.

Steering Committee Hosts Focus Groups

Throughout July, members of the GVL2040 steering committee met with focus groups all over the city, holding small, informal meetings called “kitchen table conversations.” This method of public outreach will be used in future phases of the project and for July’s conversations, committee members presented a hypothetical scenario in order to gauge residents’ reactions. The scenario, which involved the introduction of 1,000 new high-tech jobs into downtown Greenville, was designed to prompt discussion and debate over whether that would be a good outcome for Greenville or not. Steering committee members will share their focus group results at their next meeting in August.

Public Invited to Open House

The City will host a drop-in style public meeting for GVL2040 on Wednesday, August 7, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Springfield Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (600 E McBee Ave). The meeting is informal and community members are invited to stop by any time during the open house to meet the consultant team from czb and Ingalls Planning & Design and members of the steering committee, learn more about the comprehensive planning process and share their vision for the city’s future. There will not be a formal presentation.
