Haynie-Sirrine Sewer Rehabilitation Project Set to Begin January 5
December 29, 2014GREENVILLE SC – Beginning Monday, January 5, the section of Cleveland Street between Ridgeland Drive and University Ridge will be closed for approximately 12 to 14 weeks. The closure marks the start of a project to rehabilitate a portion of the sewer system serving the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood in order to improve the existing sewer system and provide capacity for future development. The project scope involves the construction of approximately 1,909 linear feet of sewer construction, including a pump station adjacent to the Reedy River and an aerial crossing of the Reedy River at Cleveland Street. The project includes sewer upgrades along Cleveland Street, Pearl Avenue and Francis Street, and the work will be done in three phases. The sequence of the phases may change based on field conditions. The entire project is expected to take five to six months to complete, and once the project is complete, Cleveland Street will be resurfaced from Jones Avenue to the Reedy River bridge.
The first phase will close Cleveland Street from the Reedy River bridge to (and including) the University Ridge intersection. The next phase will close Pearl Avenue at the intersection of Biltmore Drive, and will take two to four weeks to complete. The third phase will close Cleveland Street from Pearl Avenue to University Ridge, and will take 10 to 12 weeks to complete. Francis Street will be constructed concurrently with the three phases, and will take two to four weeks to complete. Due to the depth of the sewer, the closures will be full road closures. The City and its contractor, Harper Corporation, will work with owners of the properties adjacent to the work sites to ensure that safe access in maintained for the patrons and employees of businesses in the area. In addition to the road closures outlined above, beginning January 5, public access to the section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail between the Rudolf Anderson, Jr. Memorial and the circle on Furman College Way will be closed for several weeks. Closing this section of the trail is necessary to facilitate construction of a wastewater force main below the Cleveland Street bridge. Construction crews will have equipment below the bridge and in the Reedy River during this time period. Crews will re-open the trail section as soon as possible, with an anticipated date of February 2.
