Higginbotham Joins SMC Admissions Staff
June 30, 2014SPARTANBURG, SC – Spartanburg Methodist College is pleased to announce Kacie Hines Higginbotham has joined the SMC Admissions Office staff as an Admissions Counselor. Higginbotham will oversee the Newberry, Lexington, Richland, Kershaw, Lancaster, Calhoun, Sumter, Lee, Darlington, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Florence, Marlboro, Williamsburg, Marion, Dillon, Horry and Saluda Counties in South Carolina.
A graduate of SMC, Higginbotham knows SMC’s strategic approach to college inside and out. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, only 36% of students enrolled in four-year colleges complete their degree in four years. That’s why SMC advocates for the 2+2 approach: two years at SMC, then two years at the next school of their choice.
Higginbotham received her Associate of Arts in 2012 from SMC, and continued her studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design in 2014. While at SMC, Higginbotham was also a member of the Lady Pioneers Soccer team. Higginbotham, and her husband Michael, were married in the Davis Mission Chapel at SMC and reside in Spartanburg with their two dogs Freckles and Ollie.
Over the years, Higginbotham has been an assistant to SMC Admissions, giving individual, family and group tours, organizing and managing files, data entry, and answering inquiries about the college from potential students and has served as an athletic study hall monitor. Higginbotham earned the SMC Outstanding Pioneer Award in May 2012 for exemplifying outstanding behavior in academics, athletics and community service.
Mike Queen, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Marketing, shared “we are thrilled to have Kacie join our team. Being a product of SMC, Kacie fully understands the value of a SMC education and can share her story to help potential students navigate the college admissions process.”
SMC is South Carolina’s only private, residential college exclusively for freshmen and sophomore students and one of only four colleges in South Carolina affiliated with the United Methodist
Church. SMC’s mission is to transform lives in a values-oriented, student-centered atmosphere in the Christian tradition that encourages academic excellence, intellectual exploration, social awareness, and character development within the liberal arts tradition. Spartanburg Methodist College, founded in 1911, is proud of its heritage of providing “the opportunity TO BE your best and the inspiration TO DO great things.”
