How to become an expert at warp speed

By Jerry Bellune,

Most successful people learn early in life to become expert authorities.
Business owners and professionals do it with a simple technique.
They read and absorb a lot of information to become experts in their fields.
It’s not speed reading. Most of those courses don’t do what they promise.
But a note from our friend John Carlton reminded us you might do this, too.

Take professional or business journals and newsletters you get online or by mail.
A pile of them are sitting on our coffee table at home right now.
This weekend I will go through all of them in an hour and here’s what I do.
I scan the table of contents and mark or tear out articles I want to read.
I throw the rest away. It’s just cluttering up the place.
I do the same with digital publications. I put what I want to read in a digital folder.

I do it with new books. Go through the contents pages for what looks important.
Buy or check out the book if it has more than one chapter I want to read.
Go through this material fast. Read the first sentence of each page or paragraph.
Make notes if I feel I need to. I may use these in sales letters, ads, seminars, etc.
If I’m going to keep the book, I note good ideas in the back with the page number.
That way I can find the exact quote, anecdote or story when I need it later.

I look for repeated ideas, themes and names of experts in that field, industry or market.
I can then test these ideas and share them with those I want to attract as clients.
Try it for yourself. You may become the expert others seek to solve their problems.
