Huger Street Bridge rehabilitation project

June 1, 2018

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces the start of construction on the Huger Street Bridge rehab in Richland County. The project begins at Elmwood Avenue (Hwy 76) and connects travelers heading southbound on Huger Street (Hwy 321).  The purpose of this project is to improve safety, rehabilitate the aging interstate and mend the existing bridge.

This project is part of the $21 million contract awarded to Lane Construction for the Pavement Preservation Program that began in April, 2018, who has proposed an aggressive work schedule. Construction will start on the Huger Street Bridge on June 1, 2018 with a completion date of June 24, 2018 .   The Intent of this notice is to bring attention that a detour will take traffic from Elmwood Avenue to Assembly Street continuing to Laurel Street which will permit traffic to Huger Street.

Detour will be installed Friday evenings at 7 p.m. and remain in place till 6 a.m. Monday mornings.  This detour will only be installed on the weekends.  The travel lane will remain open during the week to minimize impacts to motorists.

Drivers traveling through the construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times.

Motorists can use SCDOT’s 511 Traveler system http://www.511sc.org/  for updates to help make travel decisions.  For more information concerning this project, the public may contact Resident Construction Engineer Jim Cravens at 803-995-8943 or [email protected]
