August 24, 2017

Event offers inspiring speakers, health screenings, seminars and entertainment at no cost

IMARA Woman magazine’s 16th annual Health Empowerment Tour, presented by Select Health of South Carolina’s First Choice Medicaid health plan and AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership, begins Saturday, August 26, at Airport High School, 1315 Boston Avenue, West Columbia. This year’s event is themed “Mind, Body, Spirit: Sister to Sister!” and runs from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. offering health screenings, educational workshops, a fashion show, cooking demonstrations, door prizes, entertainment and a healthy lunch, all at no cost to attendees.

“The Health Empowerment Tour is a day of fun and fellowship that empowers women of all ages with crucial information through entertaining and lively discussion,” said Wendy Brawley, founder and publisher of IMARA Woman. “Everyone has a great time, we learn from experts, and we get to ask questions and share our own experiences.”

Each tour event also features a special guest speaker and a diverse array of workshops. Mamie Hayes Hartwell, District Four grand supervising deputy at Prince Hall Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Stars and past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Richland County Alumnae Chapter, will discuss the importance of maintaining good health and a positive attitude to overcome personal obstacles.

“The Health Empowerment Tour educates, inspires and serves as a catalyst for healthy living,” said Rebecca Engelman, market president at Select Health, which offers First Choice, the state’s oldest and largest Medicaid health plan, and First Choice VIP Care Plus, a Medicare-Medicaid Plan. “The tour aligns perfectly with our mission to help people get care, stay well and build healthy communities.”

Advance registration is required and space is limited, so participants should sign up early at www.imarawoman.com or  call 1-803-252-0647. Comfortable clothes and shoes are suggested for all who attend.

“Entire households benefit when someone learns how to improve their health, diet or self-esteem,” said Christopher Drumm, president of AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership and senior vice president, Government and External Affairs for AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies. “Positive changes, whether physical, emotional, dietary or related to physical appearance, can lead to dramatic improvements in quality of life.”

The Health Empowerment Tour travels to Little River on September 16 and Spartanburg on October 14.
