Irmo student earns scholarship to New Hampshire boarding school
May 27, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – The Austin and Lane Meyer South Carolina Regional Scholarship announced that an Irmo Middle School student was selected to receive a scholarship to a prestigious New England boarding school.
Lauren Henderson will be attending St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, this fall. Based on 2014-15 tuition, fees and expenses, the cost of attendance at St. Paul’s School is approximately $55,000.
“St. Paul’s School offers incredible opportunities for growth,” said Scott Bohan, admissions director at St. Paul’s School. “This annual scholarship opens doors for South Carolina students and allows some wonderful young people to bring their talents and perspectives to our school.”
Henderson is the second annual Meyer Scholar. The program is the brainchild of Austin and Lane Meyer of Columbia. A St. Paul’s School alumnus, Austin Meyer is president of Laminar Research and creator of the X-Plane Flight Simulator.
“Lane and I would not be able to offer this scholarship if it had not been for the education I received while attending St. Paul’s School,” Austin Meyer said. “I was challenged to excel, but more importantly, I learned to think in unconventional ways and explore options that are not always readily apparent.”
Henderson is the daughter of Edward Henderson and Andrea Weigel. She is an eighth-grader whose grade-point average exceeds 4.0.
Away from the classroom, she competes against high school students in cross country and track, where she is one of the top runners in the state. She also qualified for the USA Swimming state meet. A talented artist as well, she is into painting and sculpture while also performing as an All-State cellist.
Founded in 1856, St. Paul’s School has an enrollment of approximately 530 students from 36 states. The 2,000-acre campus features modern technology and athletic facilities, and more than 90 of its graduates have gone on to Ivy League schools over the past four years.
To be eligible for the Meyer Scholarship, students must reside in South Carolina, meet St. Paul’s School’s entrance requirements, demonstrate strong leadership skills and posses the potential to make meaningful contributions to the school community. For information, visit MeyerScholar.org.
