Jason Drayton to lead Baptist Hill Middle/High for 2023-2024 school year

August 8, 2023

Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced Jason Drayton as interim principal at Baptist Hill Middle/High School. Drayton joins Baptist Hill from Wando where he has served as an assistant principal for the last 11 years.

Drayton began his career as a high school Career Technology and Education (CTE) teacher at Wando in 2002. A natural leader, Drayton’s role at the school continued to expand over the next ten years. Originally teaching Digital Input Technologies and Business Computer Applications, Drayton also began serving as a B-Team and varsity assistant football coach, varsity football academic coach, and the school’s soccer and lacrosse game manager a short time after.

In 2010, he shifted into an assistant administrative position, supporting the implementation and supervision of the school’s “Fast Pass” tardy procedures and the school’s student concern specialists. The following year, he participated in an administrative internship before moving into an assistant principal position in 2012 full-time. Over the last decade, Drayton has been instrumental in developing programs and fostering initiatives to support the many students and families of Wando High School. In addition to creating the school’s C.U.R.L.S. (Culturally Unmatched Resilient Legacy Students) program to develop African American leaders of tomorrow, Drayton also led Wando’s Dreamweavers initiative designed to assist families in need. He organized the school’s Golden Warrior Award, a school-wide positive reinforcement program, and assisted in organizing the school’s first HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) fair.

Drayton earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Morris Brown College and a Master of Education in Secondary Educational Leadership from Charleston Southern University.
