Broadway is coming to Newberry! The Newberry Opera House proudly presents Jekyll & Hyde a gothic musical thriller on Wednesday, November 19th, at 3 & 8 pm. The epic struggle between good and evil comes to life on stage in this all new production of the musical phenomenon, Jekyll & Hyde. It retells the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and features the electrifying pop/rock score which has mesmerized audiences the world over, including the mega hit “This is the Moment.”
It is the evocative tale of one man with two sides—one a doctor; passionate and romantic—the other, a terrifying madman, and two women—one beautiful and trusting—the other beautiful and trusting only herself. Both women are in love with the same man. Both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind’s most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde. Their story unfolds in the gripping thriller respondent with a sumptuous score including the unforgettable “Someone Like You” and “A New Life.”
Since its smash four- year Broadway run in 1997, this timeless story has had many revivals and international tours. Following a 2012 national tour, Jekyll & Hyde recently reopened on Broadway and has become one of the most entertaining musicals.
