Enriching your life’s goals
The end of a year is a good time to think ahead.
Think about your journey in business and in life.
How far have you traveled? What did you achieve?
Who helped you along the way? Thank them.
Be grateful for all they have given you.
It’s time also to update your life’s goals list.
You have one don’t you? A list of all your goals.
All peak performers need a goals list.
Lou Holtz has one of more than 100 goals.
He started it when he lost his first coaching job.
Lou was fired when a new coach took over.
The coach said Lou had no future coaching football.
“Go find something you can excel at,” he said.
Lou went home and told Beth, who was pregnant.
It looked grim. Beth had just quit her job.
They had just bought their first home in Columbia.
Their fortune was down to four figures: $40.97.
Lou read a motivational book looking for help.
The author recommended writing your life’s goal list.
Lou started writing. His list grew to 104 goals.
He proudly showed it to his loving, pregnant wife.
“Where is ‘Get a job,’” Beth asked.
“Oh,” Lou said, “That’s No. 105.”
On his list was a huge dream:
“Coach a national championship college team.”
Lou won a job coaching at William & Mary.
This school’s teams had little history of winning.
With Lou at the helm, they began to win.
That led to success as other schools lured Lou away.
Finally at Notre Dame, his team won the dream.
The Fighting Irish were national champions.
The coach with no future coaching football had won.
The coach who fired him never even came close.
Lou was determined to make a difference and he did.
