June another big month at CHS

Anyone who has flown in or out of Charleston International Airport (CHS) in the last few years has experienced the bustling atmosphere of the growing airport. June was no exception.

Enplanements – people boarding a flight at CHS – increased 6 percent, and arriving passengers – deplanements – increased a solid 5 percent in June this year compared to June 2016. Overall passenger counts increased 5.6 percent.

Passenger traffic has been on the increase at Charleston International for much of the last decade – even as the airport underwent a transformative terminal redevelopment that was completed last October. Last year, CHS set its fifth consecutive record with 3.7 million passengers. In the first six months of 2017, CHS has welcomed nearly 2 million people.

“The airport looks fantastic and it’s great to walk around the terminal each day and see our airlines, rental car counters, shops and restaurants as busy as ever,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “While June is typically one of the busiest summer months for travel, we are finding that we are busy every month.

“We work hard to give the Lowcountry and its visitors a great passenger experience in a world-class airport that exemplifies Southern hospitality,” Campbell said. ”It’s our pleasure to serve as a gateway to South Carolina and the world.”
