Just Say Something receives record donation from Greenville Greek Festival

July 10, 2023

Just Say Something, a 35-year-old organization that has worked together with youth, parents, and communities to have open, honest, and ongoing conversations about drugs and alcohol, recently received a record donation from the proceeds of entry fees during this year’s Greenville Greek Festival: $56,252.00!

Just Say Something will use the funds to expand their Youth Impact Sports program and serve more children in the community. Phillip Clark, Executive Director of Just Say Something commented, “We were completely shocked at the amount of the donation! The need for our programs in the community continues to grow. This donation will help keep Youth Impact Sports going strong and allow us to expand our program in areas where there are more children that need to be a part of and learn the life skills we are teaching. We are forever grateful to the community of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral’s Greenville Greek Festival.”

Youth Impact Sports (YIS) is a FREE flag football, basketball, and soccer camp and tournament for children ages 6 to 12, which provides a fun, athletic outlet while promoting togetherness and character-building skills (i.e., discipline; accountability bullying prevention; substance prevention; and anger management.) Team uniforms and meals are provided.

YIS league is a collaboration between Just Say Something and the Center for Educational Equity Greenville Boxing Club (CEE). While this program is geared towards youth who live in the Greater Greenville area, concentrated near the White Horse Rd corridor, youth from other communities are welcome. It was created to positively impact youth in the community during these chaotic and unprecedented times.

About Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Greenville Greek Festival

The Saint George Greek Orthodox Community was established in Greenville in 1936. The first Greek Festival began in 1987 to share our ethnic and spiritual culture with the community that has been so welcoming to our members over the years. The annual Greek Festival has become an Upstate tradition. We believe in the importance of sharing our culture with our neighbors through this event. We appreciate the support that the community has shown us throughout the years and are delighted to give back to the community.
