Kopis aims to cut through South Carolina software problems

May 13, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – South Carolina’s premier software consulting firm announced a new name, a new market and a new giving campaign all aimed at strengthening the state’s information technology sector.

ProActive Technology officially announced Tuesday it is now Kopis – a name with an allusion to Greek mythology and ties into the company’s brand identity, said Andrew Kurtz, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer.

As part of the name change, Kopis announced it was expanding its physical footprint to the Charleston market as well creating Kopis Cares, which was established to help cut through complex problems and provide resources, leadership and support to local and regional organizations whose missions are rooted in education, economic development and entrepreneurship.

A donation of $6,000 was made to NEXT High School as the first Kopis Cares grant.

“This is more than a new name,” Kurtz said. “It’s a stake in the ground.”

The Kopis name dates back to the Greek story of the Gordian Knot. Alexander the Great was able to solve the puzzle of the famed Gordian Knot by slicing it in half with a kopis, which is a heavy knife with a forward-curving blade. The solution showed the need to think differently about what many thought was an impossible problem.

“The best way to solve a complex problem is through simplicity and innovation,” he said. “At Kopis, we help get our clients the solutions they need.”

As part of the branding change, Kopis staff will be moving into a 4,000-square foot space at the NEXT Innovation Center, Kurtz said.

John Moore, CEO of NEXT, which attracts and supports high-impact, knowledge-based companies in the Greenville, South Carolina area, said companies such as Kopis are helping strengthen the region’s software market.

“Businesses here don’t have to go to Atlanta and Charlotte to find the best software developers,” Moore said. “Kopis shows what can be done locally can be done best.”

Kopis provides services for clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to successful start-ups. For every project, this Microsoft Gold Certified Partner helps create custom software solutions for mobile workforces, automation of inefficient processes, e-forms and workflow using SharePoint and business intelligence dashboards.
In addition, Kopis announced it was hiring Trevor Strange to serve the Charleston region as business development manager.

“Great growth starts with great people,” Kurtz said.
