Laurens County Humane Society Appeals for Community Support

August 14, 2024

The Laurens County Humane Society, located at 793 Poplar Street in Clinton, South Carolina, is reaching out to the community for support. As the only shelter in the county dedicated to the care of cats and kittens, they currently house 31f elines and have reached capacity in both their cat rooms and foster homes. This is in addition to the dogs in their care. The shelter, which is also the county’s only no-kill facility, relies solely on donations and adoption fees to operate.

“We are a non-profit shelter, and we have noticed a significant decrease in donations over the past year,” said Tammy W. Folk, the manager of the Laurens County Humane Society. “Our adoptions have dropped to a third of what they were at this time last year. We need help, we need YOUR help.”

All animals at the shelter are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and kept up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm prevention, and flea and tick medications. These essential services contribute to rising monthly costs, making the shelter’s financial situation increasingly challenging.

To help bridge the gap, the Humane Society has planned a fundraiser for October and is seeking sponsors to cover the basic costs of the event, such as building rental and food. “Your company would be recognized at the event, and all donations are tax-deductible,” Folk added.

Proceeds from this fundraiser are going to help start a lower cost spay neuter clinic to be located next to the adoption center.

The Laurens County Humane Society is appealing to the community to support their mission of caring for the animals in need within Laurens County. For more information on how to donate or become a sponsor for the upcoming fundraiser, please contact the shelter at 864-833-9060.

“Please look into your heart and help us help the animals of Laurens County,” Folk urged. “We eagerly await your response. Thank you, and be blessed.”
