Laurens County Water & Sewer Commission Reassures Residents of Safe Drinking Water Post-Hurricane Helene

September 30, 2024

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, rumors have been circulating throughout the Upstate concerning the safety and availability of drinking water. The Laurens County Water & Sewer Commission (LCWSC) has taken steps to address these concerns and provide clear, information to the community.

Jeff Field, Executive Director of LCWSC, reassured residents that there is no threat to the water supply, despite ongoing challenges due to the storm. “We hope you are still staying safe in these unprecedented times,” Field said. “We wanted to dispel any rumors that our water is unsafe to drink or that we will be cutting it off. We reiterate – there is no plan to shut off your water!”

The LCWSC continues to operate on backup power supplies, ensuring the system remains fully operational. Field emphasized that the commission’s dedicated team of professionals is working around the clock to maintain service. “Our folks are still working for you – our customers,” he said.

While operations are stable, LCWSC encourages residents to help conserve water to minimize stress on the system. “It’s much like running your home on a generator – you try to limit the amount of stress you put on it!” Field explained, urging the public to use water wisely during this recovery period.

LCWSC also reassured customers that any questions or concerns can be addressed through their official channels. “Please send us a message via messenger, and we will work to answer your questions or concerns,” Field stated.

As recovery from Hurricane Helene continues, LCWSC remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its customers. The commission urges residents to rely on accurate, official updates and avoid spreading misinformation.

For the latest information, residents are encouraged to visit LCWSC’s website or contact their office directly.
