Laurens Police Department Partners with Greg’s Groceries to Help Those in Need
August 31, 2022Caring for our community has always been and remains a top priority for the Laurens Police Department and to that end, they have partnered with Serve & Connect to ensure that officers are equipped with food resources to assist people most in need.
The Laurens Police Department recognizes that obtaining food may be difficult for some of our most in need residents who may be experiencing food insecurities. If you know of someone in crisis, contact the Laurens Police Department to request a box of Greg’s Groceries.
Greg’s Groceries was created four years ago to honor Forest Acres Police Officer Gregory Alia (Columbia, SC), who was shot and killed while responding to a call in 2015. His wife Kassy, started it as just a Columbia-area project, then expanded to the Midlands. As of May, 2021 more than 50,000 meals had been delivered and the program continues to grow and has a state-wide presence.
Officers can give the grocery boxes to people while on calls or through referrals. The goal is to create positive, non-enforcement interactions between police officers and community members while helping those in need.
