LCK completes $1.5 million renovation of Columbia, SC’s Nickelodeon Theatre
April 22, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – LCK has successfully completed the renovation of the former Fox Theatre, a historic theater on Main Street in downtown Columbia, SC that is the new home of The Nickelodeon Theatre.
The Nickelodeon moved into the newly renovated first floor of the theater in August of 2012. LCK was retained as project manager and owner’s representative to oversee the second phase of renovations, which included a complete overhaul of the second-floor theater, including the addition of office space for The Nick’s growing staff and the installation of an elevator.
The theater’s Main Street location created unique challenges, such as limitations for materials storage areas, unloading for deliveries and contractor parking. The Nickelodeon also needed to screen films in the first floor theater throughout the construction period. LCK was instrumental in navigating these constraints by modifying the work day to accommodate The Nick’s screenings and by coordinating the logistics of deliveries, construction and installation while managing multiple vendors.
“One of the particular challenges was introducing modern, cutting-edge elements such as state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment into a historical theater setting,” said Wesley Slice, the LCK project manager for The Nickelodeon. “By combining quality equipment with decorative elements from the original theater, the new Nickelodeon creates a unique atmosphere that will help it thrive on Main Street.”
Despite the constraints and a tight construction schedule, the project was completed in time for The Nickelodeon to unveil the completed renovations at the annual Indie Grits Festival, which begins on April 15.
