Les Dames D’Escoffier Charleston Chapter presents virtual Lowcountry holiday high tea

WHO: The Charleston Chapter of Les Dames D’Escoffier (LDEI), a worldwide philanthropic society of professional women leaders in the fields of food, fine beverage and hospitality, is introducing the upcoming holiday season with an old-school high tea.

WHAT: Participants are invited to join the fun and informative virtual demonstration led by LDEI members Marilyn Markel, General Manager of Charleston’s Spice and Tea Exchange, and Katherine Frankstone, proprietor of Grey Ghost Bakery.

They will share the history of tea in the Lowcountry and offer tips on how to brew and serve it properly. In addition, guests will be treated to sweet and savory recipes for the ultimate high tea experience.

WHEN: Sunday, October 10, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

WHY: LDEI Charleston is suggesting a donation from $15-$100 per person. Proceeds go directly to the organization’s mission of elevating women in the food, beverage and hospitality industries through scholarships and continuing education opportunities.

Biographies:
Marilyn Markel is the Manager of The Spice and Tea Exchange in Charleston, a gourmet spice and tea shop. One of the top culinary instructors in the South, Marilyn is the author of Southern Breads cookbook and was featured in the documentary Pimento Cheese, Please, produced by the Southern Foodways Alliance.

Katherine Frankstone’s love of baking led her to start Grey Ghost Bakery in 2012 with the family’s favorite cookies. Grey Ghost has since expanded into a commercial bakery offering cookies, cakes, pies and more.
