Local Senior Transportation Program Celebrates Providing 25,000 Rides

Mayor Joe Riley Provides Ride to ITN Member Rider

CHARLESTON, SC – February 28, 2011 – ITNCharlestonTrident (Independent Transportation Network), a dignified transportation alternative for older people who can no longer drive and for the visually impaired, is celebrating providing the 25,000th  ride since ITN’s FIRST RIDE on November, 15, 2006.

In celebration of the 25,000th  ride, City of Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. will give ITN member rider Edward Clifford a ride home from the Lowcountry Senior Center on Monday, Feb. 28th. The media is invited to meet with the Mayor and Mr. Clifford at 1:00 PM at the Lowcountry Senior Center located at 865 Riverland Drive, Charleston, SC 29412 before they leave for Mr. Clifford’s home. Coincidentally, Mayor Riley provided ITN’s 5,000th ride on Feb. 13, 2008.

Mayor Riley and the City of Charleston have provided support to the Independent Transportation Network since it’s inception, allowing ITN to provide rides to over 548 members over the course of their four years of operation including 265 member riders who reside within the City of Charleston.

ITNCharlestonTrident is a community based and community supported non-profit transportation program utilizing volunteer and paid drivers.

ITN provides rides 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for seniors 65 and older and visually impaired individuals 21 and over serving Greater Charleston, Greater Mount Pleasant and Greater North Charleston without restriction for ride purposes.
