Lorraine Santana White appointed to AIA Greater Columbia Board of Directors

Pond announced that Lorraine Santana White has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architects Greater Columbia Section (AIAGC).
Lorraine, a Project Architect in Pond’s Columbia, South Carolina o?ce has been a member of AIA Greater Columbia Section for three years. The organization is a resource for professionals and students and to help raise public awareness of architects and the importance of their work in building strong and livable communities.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to interact with architectural students and to become better acquainted with fellow architects in Columbia,” said Lorraine. “I look forward to collaborating with Columbia’s board members in their mission to be involved with educating and welcoming new architects in the community.”
The local chapter offers support for professionals and architectural students from institutions like Clemson University and Midlands Technical College with monthly events, workforce development and mentoring. Events range from walking tours of new buildings in Columbia to educational presentations about space and design, diversity, and understanding the effects of architecture on varying communities and generations.
As a new board member, Lorraine is helping to research the possibility of bringing the CANstruction program to the Columbia community. CANstruction is a nonprofit charity which hosts an annual competition among local architectural and engineering firms to design and construct structures made entirely of canned foods that are then disassembled and donated to local hunger relief organizations.
“At the local chapter we’re always looking for ways to engage with our community and provide creative learning experiences for members,” said Lorraine. “CANstruction combines the design-build and creative aspect of our industry and allows us to really help those in need.”
Lorraine joined the Pond Columbia team after graduating from the University of Notre Dame’s School of Architecture in 2003. She has served military, federal, state, and educational clients. Some of her recent projects include the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) Environmental Quality Control Laboratory in Lancaster and the South Carolina Air National Guard’s new $7.5 million Operations and Training Facility at McEntire Joint National Guard Base.
