September 14, 2023

Lowcountry Food Bank’s 3rd Annual Walk to Fight Hunger took place on Sunday, September 10 at Wannamaker Park. The Walk is a family-friendly event that aims to bring awareness to hunger issues in coastal South Carolina and raise funds for Lowcountry Food Bank programs, including Senior Meals, Childhood Hunger programs, and fresh produce options for the community. The 2023 event raised $92,128, which enables more than 552,000 meals for our neighbors who experience food insecurity.

The Walk was presented by Parker’s Kitchen, and more than 400 people attended the event. Individuals, companies, civic groups, schools, and churches put together fundraising walk teams for the event.

“The food insecurity rate remains high at almost 10% in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina we serve. This is equivalent to more than 144,000 of our neighbors, of whom more than 44,000 are children. The need is still great to ensure that our neighbors who face hunger can live a healthy life.” said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President & CEO. “We thank our community for participating in the Walk, which helps our community have even greater awareness of critical hunger issues.”

“At Parker’s Kitchen, we have a powerful, ongoing commitment to give back to the communities that have supported us over the years,” said Parker’s founder and CEO Greg Parker. “We know that every cent matters. We want to be a force for positive change and to support important causes and nonprofit organizations that matter most to our customers.”
