Margaret Pope Selected as One of 50 Most Influential in the Midlands
June 20, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – Margaret Pope, a member of Pope Flynn, LLC, a public finance and governmental law firm based in Columbia, has been selected as one of the 50 Most Influential People in the Midlands by Columbia Business Monthly magazine. The annual list recognizes “the people who made things happen the previous year in the areas of business, government, nonprofits, the arts, and healthcare.” Pope’s recognition acknowledged her role as founder and President of The Crescent Society, which “seeks to develop a community of women who pursue personal and professional leadership excellence in an environment of professional equality, interaction, and encouragement.” The group, founded in 2012, meets six times a year for lunch events featuring a speaker or panel discussion, and time for networking and conversation over a delicious meal. Lady June Cole, Interim President of Allen University and another member of The Crescent Society, also is recognized on the 50 Most Influential list.
“This is a much-deserved honor for Margaret, as she has been tireless not only in her work in public finance around South Carolina, but also in her volunteer service throughout the state,” says Joe Lucas, a managing member of Pope Flynn. “Margaret is well-known for her history of scrupulous attention to detail and excellence in her work as a lawyer. But it is her vision and imagination, along with an able and hard-working board of directors, that has allowed her to successfully build a women’s leadership group for South Carolina.”
Pope is past-president and founding member of The Crescent Society, a group dedicated to “recognizing and inspiring leadership excellence in South Carolina women;” a member of the board of directors of the Governor’s School for the Arts Foundation, and co-chair of its development committee; a member of the board of directors of The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation; a past member of the board of directors and past president of the American College of Bond Counsel; and past chair of the South Carolina Commission on Women.
