Meals on Wheels of Greenville chosen as beneficiary for Greenville High School Spirit Week

September 11, 2022

This year, Meals on Wheels of Greenville has been selected by Greenville High School (GHS) as the beneficiary of GHS Spirit Week. Each year, high school students from across our area pour their hearts into raising funds and awareness for nonprofits in our community during their respective school’s Spirit Week.

“When we found out they selected us, it was a true honor – one we don’t take lightly,” said Catriona Carlisle, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Greenville. “We appreciate the great effort these students are dedicating to raising funds for the benefit of our homebound clients. But more than that, it gives us the opportunity to share our mission and impact with today’s youth.”

GHS Spirit Week runs from September 9 at 10 p.m. to September 16 at 4 p.m. Students will participate in numerous events throughout the week: dress-up days, skate parties, powderpuff football, etc. Our community can also get involved by attending events around town like group exercise classes, Bids & Brews silent auction party, Kid’s Field Day at GHS, and so much more.

The Friday night of their big game against JL Mann, student council members will take to the field to unveil a large banner with the total amount they raise for Meals on Wheels of Greenville. Last year, they raised more than $200,000 for the YMCA Judson Community Center.

The generous spirit shown by these students will significantly benefit the community and make a direct impact on nearly 1,500 homebound individuals and seniors in Greenville County. Prior to GHS Spirit Week, students have spent time volunteering at Meals on Wheels of Greenville; from meal packing in their kitchen to labeling emergency meal kits, while learning firsthand what it takes to help address food insecurity in our community.
