Mike Flack Announces Retirement

COLUMBIA, SC – May 18, 2009 – Mike Flack, AAE, Executive Director of Columbia Metropolitan Airport, has announced his retirement effective January 2010. He announced his plans at the May 18th Airport Commission meeting. Mike was hired as CAE’s Executive Director beginning in May 1998 after serving as the Executive Director for Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, KY.

During Mike’s tenure in Columbia, a number of accomplishments have taken place. Great improvements in air service were made to include a number of additional nonstop destinations and new airline service. Other accomplishments include construction of the Hardee Expressway, the loop road around the terminal and construction of the parking garage. There have been extensive improvements in landscaping, development in the airport’s industrial park, improvements at the West Cargo facility, expansion of the Doolittle Hangar and upgrade of facilities for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. These are just a few of the highlights in Mike’s tenure at CAE.

In his comments to the Airport Commission, Mike expressed his gratification in managing an airport that is appreciated so much by the people it serves. He expressed his thanks to the community, members of the airport staff and so many others that have made his 11 years at Columbia Metropolitan Airport such a pleasure.
