New traffic pattern on Black Tom Road Extension starts Monday

November 21, 2023

Starting on Monday, November 20, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will implement a new traffic pattern for drivers traveling on Black Tom Road Extension toward Black Tom Road. This project is taking place in partnership with Berkeley County.

Instead of continuing until Black Tom Road Extension meets Black Tom Road, drivers will turn right onto State Road S-8-467, continuing briefly to an intersection at Black Tom Road. SCDOT has installed new traffic signs, and drivers can expect to see notification signs ahead of the traffic shift.

Drivers traveling in the opposite direction, on Black Tom Road toward the right fork onto Black Tom Road Extension, will not experience a traffic pattern shift. These drivers may still bear right at the fork onto Black Tom Road Extension.

SCDOT asks drivers in the area to slow down, use caution, and follow signage.
