Newly-designed Richland Library Wheatley officially reopens

After a little less than one year of construction, Richland Library is reopening the doors to its Wheatley location on Wednesday, May 16 and inviting the community to take a look at the newly-redesigned facility.
The 4,000 square-foot structure, located at 931 Woodrow Street, offers customers additional access to newly-released materials, spaces to gather and collaborate, an emphasis on family-friendly restrooms and a nursing mother’s lounge, and exterior improvements.
It also features the following, enhanced spaces:
CHILDREN’S AREA: Inspire lifelong learning, get your kids ready for kindergarten or build reading muscles.
MEETING SPACE: Great for tutoring, book clubs or small group gatherings.
PATIOS: Enjoy a book or use your laptop in our comfortable outdoor seating areas.
In addition, one percent of the construction budget went toward a one-of-a-kind, community-driven public art piece by local artist and University of South Carolina Associate Professor Mary Robinson. Titled Community, it highlights nature with native insects, birds and animals that might be found in the trees.
The upgrades are part of the nearly $1.5 million project that was planned for the Wheatley location, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.
