Nicole Ewing Joins Firm’s Real Estate Group in Charleston
CHARLESTON, SC – Nexsen Pruet announced that Nicole Ewing has joined the firm as Special Counsel in its Real Estate Law practice group in Charleston.
Ewing brings more than a decade of experience in handling public sector matters to her role at Nexsen Pruet. She has a strong understanding of land use and zoning concerns and a broad base of knowledge in researching, analyzing, and drafting documentation to support real estate transactions.
John Sowards, Nexsen Pruet Board Chairman, said Ewing’s track record as lead attorney for the Berkeley County Government is indicative of the value she will deliver to clients of Nexsen Pruet.
“During her time in the public sector, Nicole was instrumental in a number of initiatives – from transportation infrastructure improvements to development projects – that directly contributed to the economic prosperity of the region,” explained Sowards. “Her qualifications and experience advising government entities complements the diverse capabilities of our Real Estate Law practice group and makes her a great fit for our firm and our clients.”
As County Attorney for Berkeley County Government, Ewing led the effort to create an assessment district consisting of multiple developers to fund transportation infrastructure; drafted ordinances and referenda for a transportation sales tax program and Sunday sales of alcohol; negotiated multiple development and fee-in-lieu of tax agreements; and supervised condemnation procedures for transportation and airport projects.
She also coordinated litigation matters with outside counsel and the Insurance Reserve Fund and prosecuted several local ordinances.
Ewing is a graduate of Leadership Berkeley, a 10-month program of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce designed to cultivate the next generation of community and business leaders. In 2010, she was named among the top “Forty under 40” by the Charleston Regional Business Journal.
Ewing is actively involved in a number of professional organizations and is the Immediate Past President of the South Carolina Association of County Attorneys. Most recently, she was appointed to serve as a general council member of the South Carolina Bar Government Law Section Council. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and her law degree with honors from Seattle University School of Law.
