One Columbia launches improved public art directory
January 16, 2019One Columbia for Arts and History announced the launch of an updated and improved directory of public art cataloging sculptures, murals and monuments found around the Midlands. The directory can be reached by visiting http://publicart.onecolumbiasc.com.
Currently showcasing over 100 pieces, more listings will be added in the coming weeks. Each listing includes photos and contextual information about the piece of public art as well as directional information, encouraging people to view it in person. The entire directory is searchable using keywords and can be filtered by the theme or by the type of art being sought out.
The directory also includes stories about different features of the Midland’s public art collection, including an essay provided by the Walker Local and Family History Center at Richland Library featuring photos taken by Russell Maxey of public art of Columbia’s past. Additionally, information about creating public art in Columbia can be found on the main page of the directory.
“As the Midlands’ collection of public art continues to grow, it was important that there is a place for citizens and visitors to find information about each piece and maybe discover some of which they weren’t previously aware,” says One Columbia Executive Director Lee Snelgrove. “This directory will help to bring more attention
