One Million Cups Columbia Hosts Two Family-Focused Companies

COLUMBIA, SC – One Million Cups Columbia hosted two family-focused companies last week at Cromer’s on Huger. First was in-home tutoring and test prep group, Above Grade Level and next was Metro Rollerway, a new concept bring roller-skating into the 21st century.

Above Grade Level owner, Jenna Bridgers, shared her passion for helping K-12 students excel academically by pairing them with education mentors, or tutors and her company’s unique curriculum. “I love that we are able to make such an impact, not only on these students’ grades but in their self-esteem. Each student has his or her strengths and weaknesses; we focus on closing skill gaps and teaching them study skills to work around their weak spots.”

Lasenta Lewis-Ellis was next to share with the group and she is bringing roller-skating back to Columbia in a fun, fresh way. Her concept, Metro Rollerway, is in development now and will be on its way to opening sometime in 2015. She will offer a variety of ways to engage families from the community, whether it’s to skate, get fit, play games or share special occasions, all under the roof of her soon-to-be purchased facility. “I loved roller-skating as a child; some of my fondest memories are of being at the skating rink with my whole family on a Friday night. I want to bring that back, but make it even better with different things the whole family can enjoy.”

One of the benefits of being involved in 1MC, are the relationships that are developed over coffee and shared experience. Bridgers noted in her presentation that she and Lewis-Ellis have talked about the possibility of partnering to provide tutoring services for after school students at Metro Rollerway.
