Overnight detours scheduled at I-20 and Broad River Road interchange
May 29, 2024Starting Sunday, June 2, SCDOT will begin demolishing the old bridge on Broad River Road over Interstate 20 at Exit 65. Traffic will be directed onto the off-ramp to Broad River Road at exit 65, through the intersection, and back down the on-ramp to I-20.
- Westbound I-20 traffic will be routed through the detour Sunday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 4 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Eastbound I-20 traffic will be routed through the detour Sunday, June 9 to Tuesday, June 11 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Message boards and construction signs will be placed along I-20 to inform motorists of the temporary traffic pattern. Law enforcement will be present at the interchange of Broad River Road and I-20 (Exit 65) for traffic control.
This temporary detour is necessary for demolition of the old bridge on Broad River Road, which will allow for construction of a second new bridge on Broad River Road bridge over I-20 for drivers use when traveling north toward Irmo. These construction activities are part of the Carolina Crossroads Project in Richland and Lexington counties.
Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly in case of delays. Real-time road condition information is available at 511SC.org.
