Overton Park opens May 26

MONCKS CORNER, SC – May 16, 2012 – Santee Cooper’s Overton Park, a 400-foot beachfront swimming area on Lake Moultrie, opens Saturday, May 26, and remains open through Labor Day.

Overton is open daily to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with certified lifeguards on duty. Hours will be limited to only weekends once Berkeley County Schools resume in August. Admission is $2 per person ages 4 and up. A $40 season pass allows unlimited entry for up to four people. Annual passes to the Old Santee Canal Park are not valid at Overton.

In addition to its beachfront and swimming, Overton Park offers a playground and several picnic shelters. Shelter rentals are $25 each for the two smaller shelters and $50 for the larger shelter. Groups are permitted to rent shelters after hours until 9 p.m., with swimming allowed until 8 p.m. The cost is $100 for groups up to 25, with one lifeguard required, and $200 for groups over 25, with two lifeguards required. Park admission is also required for group rentals.

Directions to Overton Park from Moncks Corner: Take U.S. Highway 52 toward Florence, and turn left on Power House Road. Veer right on Black Oak Road and travel 1.5 miles. Turn left on Short Stay Road, and make the first right onto Overton Park Lane. If traveling from Bonneau, St. Stephen or other areas to the north, the turn for Power House Road will be on your right.
