Palmetto Trail awarded grant by The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust

October 24, 2024

Palmetto Trail announced additions to the trail in Poinsett State Park, made possible by a grant from The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust earlier this year. This grant enabled trail staff and volunteers to replace an outdated kiosk and install a new bicycle repair station.

This new kiosk provides trail users with more information about the elevation, terrain, and accessibility of the area they are entering. The bike repair station is an addition that supports mountain bike cyclists as they ride long distances through the woods, allowing them to add air to their tires and correct any problems before starting the next phase of their trip.

“This addition is something we’ve hoped to do for a long time,” said Mary Roe, executive director of Palmetto Trail. “It will be a real help to both hikers and bikers, whether they are using this passage or making a longer trip toward the coast or mountains.”

As the trail continues to expand throughout the state, grants like The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust help improve the experience for trail users. Palmetto Trail is actively working to finish the trail, fully connecting the Upstate to the Lowcountry via a walkable footpath that’s open to all.
