Parks and Recreation Promotes Mentoring Through A Speaking Tour to Schools
September 17, 2009COLUMBIA, SC – September 17, 2009 – Beginning in October, Terry Dozier, Parks and Recreation Special Programs Supervisor, will begin attending Parent Teacher Organization meetings to put the spotlight on mentoring opportunities through the Competitive Edge Mentoring Program.
One of the goals of the Competitive Edge Mentoring Program is to help improve access to mentors for youth in Columbia through increased promotion and visibility of programs and services available at neighborhood centers.
Dozier will host an interest meeting for mentors and mentees at Bethel Bishop Apartments on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m., with a second meeting scheduled at Hyatt Park on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. An orientation for mentors and coaches will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Katherine M. Bellfield Booker Washington Heights Cultural Arts Center, which will focus on the key principles for building and maintaining mentor-focused dynamics.
