Piccolo Beach Music Bash Brings the Beach Downtown

May 26, 2010

CHARLESTON, SC – May 26, 2010 – The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs will present the Piccolo Beach Music Bash as part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival on Friday, June 4, 2010, from 7 to 11p.m. at the U.S. Custom House, located on the corner of Concord and Market Streets.  The event is free and open to the public for people of all ages.

The Piccolo Beach Music Bash is beach and Lowcountry-themed and features entertainment by local musicians: the Panjamdrum Steel Drummers, the Explorer’s Club, DJ Mike Hart, and Palmetto Soul.  The Panjamdrum Steel Drummers, directed by Linda Versprille, is comprised of Berkeley County students from Berkeley, Marrington, and Sangaree Middle Schools. The Explorer’s Club is a six-piece, local band that has been playing in Charleston since 2005.  Beach bands as the Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Rip Chords heavily influence this band.  The Explorer’s Club was signed to the indie record label Dead Oceans in 2007, and have had their original music featured on the popular television shows The O.C., How I Met Your Mother, and Bored to Death.  Palmetto Soul is a six-piece, horn-driven party band that will bring the classic and most memorable beach hits of the 60’s and 70’s to the event and will close the night musically.  They are a popular local event band that is sure to represent the beach and Lowcountry themes and keep people dancing.  During the musical entertainment, attendees can enjoy dancing and can buy food and drinks from a wide selection of local vendors.

The Piccolo Beach Music Bash was planned by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs interns, and they have coordinated every aspect of the event, from deciding the themes, to booking the entertainment and designing the promotional pieces, with the guidance and supervision from the OCA.  The event is sponsored by FOX24, Bottles ‘n’ Brushes, Dunnan Gallery, and Ross Printing.
