Pinewood Preparatory Notes Academic Achievements of Graduating and Rising Seniors

SUMMERVILLE, SC – May 18, 2012 – With preparations for graduation underway, Pinewood Preparatory School, an independent, college preparatory school located in Summerville, S.C., announces the valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2012 and takes stock of the academic achievements attained by its students, including three who earned a perfect score on one or more sections of the SAT. 

This year’s valedictorian will be Taylor Greene. Greene, who lived in Russia for five years and Germany for three, has served as student body president and as captain of the Model United Nations team.  He is also the captain of the Pinewood varsity swimming and the varsity cross country teams and is a member of the track team, the Math Club, Beta Club, and Frisbee Club.  Taylor has taken eight Advanced Placement (AP) courses and plans to attend Clemson University. 

Salutatorian for the class of 2012 will be Zachary Yaeger. Yaeger, who plans to study physics at Clemson University, achieved a perfect score on the critical reading portion of the SAT and on the Math subject test (SAT II).  Yaeger is a National Merit finalist and is a member of the fencing team, the International Club, and the Latin Club.  He has taken eight AP classes and is a volunteer with Charleston County Parks and Recreation and Greyhound Pets of America.
 
In addition to Yaeger, two other students at Pinewood Preparatory achieved perfect scores on sections of the SAT. Ansley Bolick of Summerville received a perfect score on both the math and reading portions of the test and Nong Nong, a junior at the school, achieved a perfect score on the math portion.

Bolick, who will be attending the University of Pennsylvania, plans tostudy medicine.  She is captain of the Pinewood State Championship QuizBowl team, a member of the Mock Trial team and the Model United Nationsteam, and a member of student government.  She took eight AP classes andserved as an assistant for a mentoring program at Flowertown ElementarySchool for fifth and sixth grade girls. Bolick is a National MeritScholar and is graduating as one of the top five students in her class.
 
Meanwhile, Nong is considering Ivy League schools and other top collegesand plans to study business or accounting. She is a member of the ArtClub, the International Club, and the Beta Club.
 
Rounding out the top five of Pinewood’s graduating class are Nick Holtand Dylan Hopper. Holt has been named a Hollingsworth Scholar at FurmanUniversity and will receive a scholarship valued at $100,000 for fouryears. This is the third Pinewood student to receive the prestigiousHollingsworth award. Holt, who has taken six AP courses, spent hisjunior year of high school in New York City.  He is a member of thevarsity cross country and track teams, as well as the Math Club, PlayProduction, and Model United Nations team.
 
Hopper has taken seven AP courses and is active with student government,Beta Club, the National English Honors Society, and Fusebox.  Hopperwas selected as a James Otis Scholar and participated in the James OtisScholar Lecture Program at the State House in Columbia.  She plans toattend the College of Charleston.
 
With graduation nearing, Pinewood has also announced this year’s juniormarshals. Marshals are students ranked in the top ten percent of theclass who have taken at least one AP course and who have sat for theexam in addition to having taken at least three honors, or AP, courses.The junior marshals assist at baccalaureate and at graduation. Thisyear’s marshals are Mathilde Demey, Lauren Fanning, Kyle Hair, JarrettLondergan, Abby Mandel, Ryan Moore, Austin Pahl, and Peter Ruby.
 
Junior Marshal Mathilde Demey will be traveling to France next year asan exchange student. She is a member of the Pinewood Beta club,International Club, student government, and Blue Crew. She also playedon the varsity tennis and track teams.  She plans to study biology andlanguages in college.
 
Lauren Fanning has won nine SCISA gold medals for piano.  She playsvarsity soccer and runs on the Pinewood cross country team in additionto being in the International Club, Interact Club, Beta Club, and MuAlpha Theta.  Fanning has attended piano camp at Furman University andhas taken four AP courses at Pinewood.
 
Junior Marshal Kyle Hair plans to study physics and engineering incollege.  He is a member of the Pinewood varsity baseball team, BetaClub, and Blue Crew. Kyle also attended Boys State, an involved summercamp that allows young men to actively learn more about the Americangovernmental system.
 
Jarrett Londergan is a member of the varsity soccer, varsity football,and state championship speed and strength teams.  He is a member of theBeta Club and Math Club.  In college, Londergan plans to studyengineering and medicine.
 
Abby Mandel traveled as an exchange student to the Bently School in SanFrancisco as part of the Network of Complementary Schools program.  TheNetwork of Complementary Schools is a group of public and independentschools that offers its students and faculty opportunities to experiencelearning through varied programs at its member schools. Mandel hastaken four AP classes and runs on the varsity cross country and varsitytrack teams.  She is part of Play Production, International Club,Interact Club, the Marine Biology Club, and Beta Club, and serves as aPanther Ambassador.
 
Ryan Moore is a St. Paul’s senior volunteer who participates in the BetaClub, International Club, Marine Biology Club, FCA, Fusebox, andstudent government at Pinewood.  A member of the varsity soccer team,Moore has taken three AP classes and plans to study biology in college.
 
Junior Marshall Austin Pahl participates in fencing and is a member ofthe Quiz Bowl team, the Model United Nations team, Mock Trial, and theMath Club.  He has taken four AP classes and is involved with archeologyat the Summerville Dorchester Museum.  In college, Marshall plans tostudy international business.
 
Peter Ruby plans to study engineering in college and is a member of theBeta Club and International Club.  He is a member of the varsity soccer,cross country, and track teams.  He has two state championship ringsand has taken two AP classes at Pinewood.
 
The honor of flag bearer goes to a junior, Sean Carter.  Sean is anEagle Scout who plans to study engineering in college.  A member of QuizBowl, the Chess Team, and the Robotics Team, Carter also plays on thejunior varsity soccer team.
