Registration now open for spring break and summer camps at the State Museum

Day Camps, presented by Aflac, include hands-on activities for children featuring a variety of subjects including science, art, history, astronomy, and robotics.

The South Carolina State Museum is excited to welcome campers back in 2024 with a new lineup of spring break and summer camps presented by Aflac for children aged 6 – 12 years old. Each camp is themed with a different topic of learning & exploration. Registration for spring break camps and summer camps is now open!

Spring Break Camps

Spring break camps will run 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with an optional Extended Day Camp till 5:30 p,m. for an additional fee) from Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5. Campers can sign up for individual days or the whole week. Each day of spring break camps will focus on a different subject matter— science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Every day of camp features morning social time with other campers, museum exploration, hands-on and interactive activities, snack time, and lunchtime. Campers will be divided into groups by ages 6 – 8 and 9-12.

Monday, April 1: ET Phone Gnome!

Learn about different kinds of stars and how sunlight affects life while creating an alien who comes from a planet that orbits a star very different from our Sun. Then figure out a way to help our new friend keep from getting too much sun while waiting for a rescue party!

Tuesday, April 2: Healthy Humans

Hands-on learning awaits as students explore the five food groups, build their own food pyramid, and explore creative ways to get active by playing a giant game of Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Wednesday, April 3: Coding by Color

Did you know you can code robots through colors? On this day, we’ll be working with robots, including Ozobot Evo and Sphero Indi, to create our own colorful coding adventures- color us impressed!

Thursday, April 4: Young Paleontologists

Let us dig a little deeper! Our young paleontologists will learn key differences amongst different types of fossils and use proper excavation techniques to uncover buried artifacts. Join us as we embark on an expedition to discover South Carolina’s natural history.

Friday, April 5: Quirky SC

Have you ever heard of The Lizard Man? Or traveled to the Button Museum? Did you know we have a UFO Welcome Center in SC?! Learn about these and so much more as we explore our wonderfully quirky state!

 

Summer Camps

Summer camps will run from June until August. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of different week-long camps while exploring the museum, experiencing 4D and planetarium shows, and engaging in problem-based educational activities and STEM projects throughout the day. Whether it’s exploring space in the planetarium and observatory, engineering their own robotic designs, creating art using traditional techniques, or exploring South Carolina’s history, there’s something for every camper to enjoy. Summer Camps are separated by ages, 6-8 and 9-12.

Camps for 6-8 Year-Olds

Exploring Our Space (June 3-7 or July 15-19), Beep. Bop. Boop! (June 10-14 or July 22-26), Classical Fantastical Creations (June 17-21 or July 29 – Aug. 2), Sense-ational Art (June 24-28 or August 5-9) and Girls Can Do It! (July 8-12 or Aug. 12-16)

Camps for 9-12 Year-Olds

Inventive History (June 3-7 or July 15-19), The Art of History (June 10-14 or July 22-26), Revin’ Up Our RAM (June 17-21 or July 29 – Aug. 2), Journey Through the Stars (June 24-28 or Aug. 5-9) and “Tink” Outside the Box (July 8-12 or Aug. 12-16)
